The first draft of the new cello piece went out to D. Scot Williams who commissioned it. Seven and a half minutes of music exploring all registers of the instrument, various sound colors, articulations, and contrasting moods and tempos. Now for the exciting part of having Scot impart life into my blueprint. Also preparing for adjustments and corrections, but I already received feedback telling me the music is very much playable.
Every instrument has its challenges, but string instruments especially, with their specific tuning limiting the hand positions and therefore restricting certain harmonies or melodic lines. It helps that I have studied cello for 1.5 years and I hope I did it justice, if not by playing, then at least by composing music for it.
