Winner of the 2011 NYU Skirball Film Scoring Competition – “The Bubble Tree” by Ran Jing. Animated films are perhaps the hardest to score because the music has to be synchronized with the movement on the screen in minute detail. It is double difficult when the film is silent. In that case the music takes on the role of the narrator and its role is to portray all mood changes at the drop of a hat.

Originally performed by the NYU Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Jerry Steichen, this clip features sampled instruments (computer rendition).
