I composed "Impression" in 2007 when I was studying composition at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. At that time I was intrigued with Johann Sebastian Bach's secret spelling of words through notes. I tried the same idea with spelling a friend's name - Asher (for whom I have composed the piece). This way I came up with a four-note motive A-B-E-D which is spelled in many different configurations throughout the piece.
